Day in Pictures named Jazz Album of the Year by Magnet Magazine
Its been a whirlwind couple of weeks. Just finished a couple of Saturday afternoon concerts with Day in Pictures featuring completely new lineups and mostly brand new material. It was a really rewarding experience to work on the same tunes at the same club with totally different bands. Barbes was a great spot to be the last two Saturday afternoons. Not many people took me up on the open to the public rehearsals but I still think its a potentially interesting idea for folks who are interested in the process, so hopefully I can try that again soon. In the middle of that, I had a performance on Late Night with David Letterman leading a horn section for the musical guest Gomez. It was a super fun experience to work with Gomez and the veteran horn section from Paul Shaffer's band. You can see the end result HERE.
A couple of fun gigs coming up in August. The return of Paper Gardens on August 15th (again at Barbes). I've been working on expansions to the piece so watch out for more Paper Gardens sightings in the coming year. Also Day in Pictures trio will be at Nublu on August 21st. I haven't played at Nublu yet but its a favorite Manhattan spot to hear some music and if you stay later you can get down and boogie to their brazilian dance parties. Stay Cool Y'all hope to see you this summer!
I've just returned from an extended tour with the Sam Robert's band. Super fun travels with an amazing band and great group of fellas. Meanwhile back in NYC I'm excited to be moving to south brooklyn in July and saying farewell to the ever dynamic Bushwick. To warm up my new digs I'll be performing two afternoon concerts in July at Barbes (Saturday July 9th and Saturday July 16th). The concerts will feature different quintet lineups and the new book of Day in Pictures tunes. Come by at 4pm if you're interested in our rehearsal process as we will run over the material in an open rehearsal. Or come just come at 5pm and check out the set. In late July I'm thrilled to be attending the Music OMI residency program. I'll spend three weeks in the countryside collaborating with musicians of diverse backgrounds and heritages and will be pushing the limits of how many hours I can practice in a day! Looking forward to the fall I'll be participating in a festival celebrating one of my teachers and mentors Anthony Braxton put on by the Tri Centric Foundation. I'll be performing in his Opera as well as his new small ensemble that will feature musicians and dancers (and I think the musicians will dance as well!). Ok that's about it for now, check the Calendar for specific dates and times and sign up for my mailing list to receive very occasional reminders about my band leader gigs. Thanks for reading!

Thank You to everyone who came out to Zebulon for the Day in Pictures CD Release show. We had a packed crowd on a Tuesday night for a bill of all adventurous jazz and improvising (Beautiful opening and closing sets by Keir Neuringer and Michael Attias)! I was especially encouraged by the new tunes that we tried out. Looking forward to a set of all new music for our show on April 25th at University of the Streets!
