Matt Bauder formed Day in Pictures in 2007. Inspired by a BBC News website of the same name Bauder created this particular ensemble to focus his diverse compositional skills into a singular sound. The current lineup features some of today’s most remarkable improvising musicians. Nate Wooley and Bauder have honed a unique frontline sound through extensive touring with Harris Eisenstadt’s Canada Day quintet. The rhythm section of Kris Davis (piano), Jason Ajemian (bass) and Tomas Fujiwara (drums) compliment each other with stark contrasts of approaches. As a unit the band blurs the distinction between tradition and experimentation. The group’s first two albums were released by Clean Feed Records. The debut was named #1 Jazz Album of the year by Magnet Magazine and the second album Nightshades was featured in Downbeat magazine’s distinguished Hotbox column.
